Lakme Fashion Week has always been one of my favourite events to go to, even more so in these recent few years since they’ve introduced Sustainable Fashion Day. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to make it to the show last week but my entire Seams For Dreams team attended to witness history doing down! It really is such a big deal that we now have an entire day dedicated to sustainable fashion and innovation for the future. The UN hosted the inaugural talk and fellow actress Dia Mirza, the current UN Environment Goodwill Ambassador for India, gave us something to think about with her talk on the importance of a circular economy. It’s not always about using eco-friendly fabrics but what we do with clothing and products after their respective lifespans. Circular economy is all about reusing, recycling, and redesigning!
Of course, Sustainable Fashion Day would not be complete without a few words from Anita Dongre, one of the most beloved designers of our time and visionary for the sustainable fashion movement in India. Anita ji has spearheaded many of her own sustainability initiatives with her Grassroots label and her new green store. Most recently, she partnered with Reliance and created a limited edition of t-shirts made out of a new alternative fabric created from plastic bottles. You may have seen me sporting this adorable tee with a cause during my recent trekking excursion with friends! So, not only do I love her because of her gorgeous clothing, but more because of her commitment to women’s development and sustainability as a whole.
