When is the last time you tried or did something for the first time ever? Every single day, we come across various things that we think we might want to do or accomplish but rarely ever find time to *actually* accomplish them. I remember when I first moved from Germany to Mumbai, learning Hindi was one of the main things I wanted to do, not only for my career but for myself too. In a place like Mumbai that is super multicultural, and many people are English-speaking, learning Hindi is not necessarily a priority but this was something that I knew I wanted to do not only for my movie career but mostly to discover my own roots as an Indian. Learning Hindi was definitely something that made me a little scared and practicing on a day to day basis was a challenge cause everyone in Mumbai spoke a different kind of Hindi or accent. Finally I got myself a private tutor who held me be accountable to my OWN goals. Of course, the first few months were completely harrowing and frustrating but after lots of practice and patience, I finally got the hang of conversational Hindi. I like to constantly challenge myself, and that’s what made me take up an action role for the first time in the movie Saaho – and that too in a completely new language again – Telugu! I hope you all will love this film as much as we do and can’t wait for it’s release this independence day on the 15th August!
Learning a new language, trying a different form of physical activity, or picking up a whole new skill all together definitely takes commitment, but that is truly the only way we grow as individuals. No matter what it is, we will never realize our own potential until we challenge ourselves to learn new things that are outside of our comfort zone. It’s upsetting how many great opportunities pass us by because we act out of a place of fear. So next time ask yourself if this fear is actually applicable to this particular situation or is your brain just playing a round of “worst case scenario”! Be courageous! Take on life, dream your dreams, and go for it! One of my favourite shows I ever shot for was Life Mein Ek Baar! You can still watch it on Netflix!
Today I challenge you to ask yourself what it is that you truly want to learn? There’s no right or wrong answers and it could be anything from learning yoga, pottery, or an instrument, but everyone always has something that calls out to them. Anytime you think of one of these things, I suggest writing them down, make a bucket list, create a vision board for yourself. Creating vision boards is one of my favourite ways to remind me of my own personal goals because they are in front of you every day and I can see my dreams take the shape of reality.
Let me know if you want me to show you a simple DIY on how to make a vision board in one of my next articles or videos! What are some of the dreams and goals you have? I would love to hear from you in the comments below!
